For the first time since being admitted to hospital late last season, Hull KR’s captain Shaun Lunt is set to return to training this week – but a date hasn’t yet been given for his playing return.
31-year-old Lunt was taken ill in late September with a bacterial infection and, as a result, was ruled out for the remainder of the season. It was the last in a streak of injuries which hit the Cumbrian throughout 2018 but, after having time recuperating from treatment in hospital and at home – including having a drip placed in his arm – Tim Sheens is set to welcome his captain back to training, possibly on Monday. It was initially hoped that he would return last week but a negative reaction to drugs put paid to that.
“Shaun saw a specialist last Monday and he’s had the drip in his arm where they put the antibiotics in out last Tuesday. He had a reaction from that and is not 100 per cent,” Sheens told the local media, continuing that “we anticipate he will be back in with the boys this week coming and will be doing some light duties as his body gets accustomed to normal life again.” Despite being out of action, Lunt has been meeting fans in recent weeks as they collect shirts celebrating his upcoming testimonial year.
