Brisbane Broncos’ winger Corey Oates has penned a new one-year deal to remain at Red Hill in the days following the arrival of Anthony Seibold as head coach.

A five-time Queensland State of Origin representative, 24-year-old Oates boasts a remarkable try scoring record where he has scored 79 tries in 120 appearances for the Broncos. Last term saw the wideman cross 18 times in 23 outings and, as such, he is likely to be a regular in Seibold’s first term in charge of Brisbane after he finally arrived from South Sydney. Along with Tevita Pangai Junior and Matt Lodge, Oates was one of three key Broncos players who were out of contract as of the end of October but it is believed that the two forwards will follow suit and extend their stays with the club.

Of his re-signing, Oates admitted that he was keen to earn a longer deal. “The best thing to do was to get the one-year deal sorted – I don’t want to go anywhere else,” he told the media. “I did a one-year deal last season to prove that I deserve a bigger contract, not money-wise, but because I want to stay here for a long time and do whatever I can for this club.”
