Brisbane Broncos forward Josh McGuire looks set to leave Wayne Bennett’s outfit and move to 2015 premiers North Queensland Cowboys in a huge $3.2m deal.

News outlets Down Under have revealed that, despite being an Australian international and one of the highest rated forwards in the world game, the Broncos are willing to allow the 29-year-old to move to a Cowboys club who are building a squad capable of challenging for titles both in 2019 and beyond. The length of McGuire’s would-be deal is unknown but it has been suggested that the North Queensland club are hoping he will sign one which will see him play out the remainder of his career in Townsville.

With Tevita Pangai Junior, David Fifita, Payne Haas and Joe Ofahengaue all 23 or under and having broken into the first team squad at Brisbane, it is felt that while they don’t necessarily want to see McGuire leave the club, it would free up salary cap space to ensure they can retain their up-and-coming talent for the future.
