Warrington Wolves have announced the signing of Huddersfield Giants’ full back Jake Mamo on a one-year deal after leaving the West Yorkshire club.

After scoring seventeen tries in twenty-five matches for the Giants over two injury hit seasons, Steve Price’s club have swooped to sign the 24-year-old Australian and will be hoping that the former Newcastle Knights man will be able to stay injury-free to help the club go one step further than 2018. Mamo initially arrived in Super League as a full back from the NRL club but showed through Simon Woolford’s time at Huddersfield that he is capable of playing in the centres or on the wing, adding versatility to Warrington’s backline.

A player who impressed for the Giants when available, Price was understandably delighted to complete the signing of the Australian. “He has a lot of quality attributes and brings a lot of enthusiasm,” he told the club’s official website, adding that he and his staff have watched Mamo in detail in recent years. “He competes really hard and can play in a number of positions. He’s going to be a great acquisition for our footy club.”

Mamo, after a tough period both on and off the pitch with the Giants, told the media that he was delighted to sign for a club who will challenge for trophies. “I’m very excited to be signing for the Warrington club with its history. I’ve been wanting to join a strong club for a long time so I’m excited for this opportunity,” Mamo noted. Obviously in high spirits after sealing his new deal, Mamo explained his belief that Warrington’s fans have made an impact on him in recent years. “I’ve been on the end of some stick from the Warrington fans in the past, especially when I had my long hair, so I know they are great supporters who are always loud so it will be good to be on the better end of that this year,” he remarked.
