Salford Red Devils have released hooker Kriss Brining after the 24-year-old missed the entire 2018 season with injury.
After making twenty four appearances in 2017, scoring five tries in the process, the former York City Knights rake was unable to build on an impressive debut Super League season after being hit by injury struggles and Red Devils head coach Ian Watson admitted that it was a hard decision to release Brining. “It was an extremely tough decision to let Kriss go,” Watson told the media. “Kriss was one of my first signings and I’d have loved to have continued our journey together. I’m still of the opinion that Kriss still has the potential to go far in the game,” he added.
Indeed, Watson seemed to indicate that belief in Brining’s ability further by suggesting that the pair may reunite in the future should circumstances allow it. “I’m hopeful that we can work together again in the future and this is something I’ve discussed with Kriss. Hopefully he gets his career back up and running,” he explained. However, the fact that the club is already well-stocked in the hooking department for 2019 with Joey Lussick, Logan Tomkins and Josh Wood contracted to Salford.
