Since New Zealand Warriors made clear their openness to allow star half-back Shaun Johnson to leave the club, various NRL clubs have been credited with interest in the international and Canberra Raiders are believed to be putting a bid together for the twenty-five time Kiwi international.

With one year remaining on his $1 million a season deal with the Warriors, Johnson is now free to discuss with other clubs where he will ply his trade in 2020 but, in order to represent another team in 2019, he will have to negotiate a release from his current deal. The New Zealand Herald is reporting that the Raiders will be the first team to table an offer for the Kiwis’ record points scorer.

Johnson has been with the Warriors since making his debut in 2011 but it looks likely that he will be leaving the club in the not-too-distant future and, while Canberra’s offer is the first, it is highly unlikely to be the last.
