Betfred Championship team Swinton Lions have announced the signing of Billy Brickhill from divisional rivals Rochdale Hornets on a one-year deal.
The two teams finished in the bottom spots of the Championship in 2018 but, despite that, both avoided relegation due to the restructuring of the league. Brickhill, 21, won the Hornets’ Young Player of the Season award, shining in a struggling team and Swinton’s signing of the youngster is viewed as something of a coup.
“Last year saw Billy step up to the Championship and adequately cover in numerous positions throughout the season,” Swinton head coach Stuart Littler said of the player who can play in the halves, hooker and at loose forward.“After meeting with Billy and his dad I am 100% certain he is a good fit for our club.”
Brickhill has formerly represented Gloucestershire All Golds and North Wales Crusaders.
