Crooks signs new Robins deal

Hull KR have announced that centre Ben Crooks has put pen to paper on a new two-year-deal with the Robins after joining towards the end of the 2018 season.

Released by Leigh following their financial troubles, 25-year-old Crooks returned to familiar territory having begun his professional career with the Robins’ cross-city rivals Hull FC. Having played over fifty times for the Airlie Birds, Crooks was named in the Super League Dream Team in 2013 and spent time with Parramatta Eels in the NRL following his Humberside departure. Returning to the UK in 2016, Crooks joined Castleford Tigers for whom he made 28 appearances before moving onto Leigh, initially on loan before making the move permanent.

When it became clear that the Centurions were set to miss out on a place in The Qualifiers this year, Crooks was one of many players to depart the club and, now, he is set to be a key part of Tim Sheens’ KR team after starring for the club since joining them in July. Of his new deal, the 2013 Super League Young Player of the Year was understandably pleased. “I still think I have my best years ahead of me as a player and I’m excited for what the next few years here at Rovers brings both for me personally and the club,” he told Hull KR’s website.

Crooks looks set to be one of the Robins’ two first-choice centres alongside Jimmy Keinhorst who will be joining the club ahead of the 2019 season.
