Toronto Wolfpack clearly aren’t hanging about as they prepare for their second campaign in the Betfred Championship and have today announced the signings of a remarkable six new faces.
Half-back Joe Mellor, forwards Gadwin Springer, Bodene Thompson and Tom Olbison have joined the already-confirmed acquisitions of Jon Wilkin and Ricky Leutele in joining the ambitious Canadians who, after experiencing a shock defeat when losing 4-2 to London Broncos in the Million Pound Game, will be keen to make sure lightning doesn’t strike twice as they push for Super League.
Mellor has joined the club after Widnes announced his departure earlier in the day and completes a move which has long been speculated while Thompson joins fresh from experiencing defeat in the Super League Grand Final in his final game for Warrington. The Australian signed towards the end of the season following the demise of Leigh and will now return to the Championship. French international Springer, 25, moves across the Atlantic after finding first team opportunities limited with Castleford but is certainly a player who brings size and power to a pack. Olbison, 27, like Mellor has joined the Wolfpack following Widnes’ relegation from Super League.
The arrival of Wilkin has been confirmed by the player himself in recent weeks while Leutele’s signature from NRL’s Cronulla was announced months ago. The move was thrown into doubt following the club’s failure to earn promotion to Super League but the club have confirmed his arrival.
