Reports on the NRL’s official website have suggested that St Helens’ sensational full back Ben Barba is set to be granted an early release from his contract at the end of this season to return to the competition he used to grace.
The site has claimed that there are several NRL clubs interested in signing the 2016 NRL Grand Final winner. Having been a key part of the Cronulla Sharks team who lifted the trophy, his departure came following a twelve match ban after testing positive for cocaine and joined Saints shortly after head coach Justin Holbrook’s arrival.
With 29 tries in his 28 matches for Saints, 29-year-old Barba leads Super League’s try scoring chart this season while also having provided the second most assists in the competition. Having already secured Kevin Naiqama from Wests Tigers for 2019, Holbrook looks to have a replacement coming in but there is no doubting that losing Barba would be a huge blow for the current league leaders.
