Oldham’s Danny Bridge has seen his season ended early following his being handed a nine month ban for assaulting an official.
25-year-old Bridge was hit with a Grade F charge by the RFL following the incident over ten days ago when his team lost at Keighley Cougars and the former Warrington forward now faces an extended absence from the field. The minimum sanction for a Grade F charge is an eight game ban but Bridge has found himself on the receiving end of one of the longest in recent memory.
Widnes’ Chris Houston was banned earlier in the season for making contact with a match official – Phil Bentham hasn’t been an on-field referee since – but, with that offence a less severe one than Bridge’s, he was only banned for two matches.
