Hull FC’s towering winger Fetuli Talanoa has penned a new deal with the Airlie Birds until the end of the 2019 season.
With his current contract set to expire at the end of this campaign, Hull’s desire to get the 30-year-old’s signature was known and the new deal also has the option for a further year. Currently out with an injury sustained in their Challenge Cup victory over Featherstone Rovers, Talanoa is still the third highest try scorer in Super League behind only Ben Barba and Mark Percival. With twelve tries to his name from his fourteen league appearances, there is no doubting the former Tongan international winger’s prowess near the opposition’s try line. His height obviously a huge attribute for both himself and his team, his ability to pluck kicks out of the air under pressure saw him cross regularly for the reigning Challenge Cup winners before his injury.
Set to return before the end of July – if the lay off announced in the days following his injury is accurate – his comeback will be timely for a Hull FC team who, despite being hit hard by injuries in 2018, are still in the mix for the top four and will fancy their chances of reaching the Super League play offs when their stars return. Ahead of their big Saturday evening match against Wigan Warriors, the news of Talanoa’s re-signing will certainly be a boost for the Old Faithful.
