Cas winger set for return

After an impressive 2017 campaign, Castleford Tigers’ flying winger Greg Eden will have been hoping for another prolific campaign. That, however, hasn’t been the case.

Despite featuring in thirty one matches last season in all competitions and crossing for a remarkable forty one tries, the 27 year old has only played in three matches in 2018 thus far, scoring once. In a campaign where he has been hampered by a hamstring injury, Cas’ coach Daryl Powell is understandably wary of introducing the winger back too soon. “We have been extremely cautious over him. “He has had a couple of weeks of real serious work in terms of getting himself ready to go.”

Now, that return looks to be imminent with Powell suggesting that the former Brisbane, Hull KR and Huddersfield man could be set to feature this weekend. While his coach hasn’t confirmed that Eden will be involved on Friday as they face one of his former teams in KR, he has admitted to hoping that he will be available for selection. Quietly confident, Powell explained that “he is a fast athlete so he is more prone to hamstrings than other players, but I am confident he will be ready this time.”

The return of Eden would be timely for the Tigers who are coming off the back of a disappointing 40-18 home defeat to St Helens last time out as they deal with injuries to various star players which, in turn, has led to players taking roles in positions they aren’t specialists in while some, including Jy Hitchcox, have featured after being recalled from loan deals. Hull KR are coming fresh off a shock 24-8 victory over Wigan and will be keen to build upon that this weekend.
