Another injury blow for the Rhinos

24 hours after club captain Kallum Watkins was ruled out for the rest of the season following an anterior cruciate ligament injury in his knee, the 2017 Super League champions have been hit by another injury blow and it is to yet another one of their packmen.

Having already missed a large part of the season so far through injury, forward Nathaniel Peteru has been ruled out for around three months with a bicep injury sustained at Magic Weekend. It is the same injury he suffered in the Rhinos’ season opener at Warrington, although this time it is in his opposite arm. Having already missed twelve matches this season, the former Gold Coast Titan had featured in Leeds’ last three contests. Now, however, he has been added to a lengthy injury list which looks set to leave the Rhinos with a heavily depleted squad for this weekend’s Perpignan trip to face Catalans.

Jamie Jones-Buchanan has been ruled out for six to eight weeks for a knee operation while the likes of Carl Ablett, Stevie Ward, Joel Moon, Matt Parcell, Brett Delaney and Jack Walker are all doubtful. Add those to Brad Singleton, Mitch Garbutt, Liam Sutcliffe (all injured) and Anthony Mullally (suspended) and it’s fair to say that Leeds will be under strength as they face the resurgent Dragons.

  1. Gutted as a Leeds fan. But how many injuries this season for all teams? How many are ACL or other knee injuries? Is there a common denominator? Over training, harder pitches, technique changes? I dont know, I am just guessing. Strange how there are so many knee and joint injuries this year
