Leeds’ centre a wanted man

A dependable player when selected, Leeds fans are concerned that the contract of their German centre Jimmy Keinhorst is set to expire at the end of this season – and they may well be right to be.

Already, it is believed that Castleford, Hull Kingston Rovers and Wakefield are interested in bringing the 27 year old to their club ahead of the 2019 Super League campaign. Throw Toronto Wolfpack – of course – into the mix for those interested in the current Widnes loanee and it is plain that the Rhinos may well have a fight on their hands to hold on to a player who is sure to be craving regular first team action.

Initially understudy to Liam Sutcliffe in the left centres at Headingley, Keinhorst crossed for a hat-trick earlier this season against Hull KR due to the injury absence of the Englishman. However, in the following match against Melbourne, the German suffered an injury of his own which paved the way for Ash Handley to mount a case for the jersey – something he has done thanks to his impressive form.

As such, Keinhorst has been sent out on loan to the Vikings – the team he is unable to represent as his parent club visit in the Challenge Cup this weekend – and has made two appearances for the club. The Rhinos are believed to be keen to retain the reliable centre or second rower but, with other clubs likely to offer him a starting berth and, with it, an increased pay packet, a move may well be on the cards.
