Various news outlets are this afternoon reporting that Hull FC’s 27 year old prop forward Liam Watts is set for a surprising switch to Super League rivals Castleford Tigers.
The former Hull KR forward is currently serving a ban following his headbutt on Warrington’s Dom Crosby two game weeks ago but that doesn’t seem to have deterred the Tigers from swooping fast for a man who – when available – is usually a starter for the Black and Whites. Indeed, it is believed the two clubs have agreed a ‘substantial fee’ for the transfer to go ahead with immediate effect and, with Watts’ current deal with the Airlie Birds set to expire at the end of this season, it seems they are set to receive a fee for him.
It is believed that Hull FC have been open to offers for the Featherstone born prop and last season’s beaten Grand Finalists have swooped to the front of the queue. Watts would certainly bring an imposing presence to the Tigers pack and his sheer aggression is perhaps something their current crop of forwards don’t quite boast in the same manner. It is believed that Watts hasn’t been with his teammates since for the last week after the club grew frustrated with his behaviour both on and off the pitch and a fee was also supposedly agreed with Championship heavyweights Toronto. However, the Tigers, when they heard of Watts’ availability, lodged a bid and the transfer is set to be formally announced imminently.
