After his own move following a sterling RLWC campaign, former Super League star James Graham has tipped current St Helens forward Alex Walmsley for a big future in the game, touting him as one who would be a great signing for any NRL club.

Various rugby league outlets suggested that Walmsley was on the radar of clubs Down Under following a superb 2017 as well as featuring for England this winter but, now, that seems to have died down with the former Batley Bulldog set to star at the Totally Wicked Stadium for the Saints in 2018. However, with his contract set to expire at the end of the upcoming campaign, a strong season may well prompt the interest of NRL clubs once more and his England teammate Graham has suggested Walmsley as a recruit for NRL clubs, saying “if I had to name one player that NRL recruiters should look at, it would have to be Alex.” Indeed, the Liverpool born forward suggested that Walmsley has been the best prop in the Super League over the past two years and highlights his aggression and sheer size as two attributes which would seriously trouble any defence.

It would be a huge loss to both St Helens and Super League as a competition if Walmsley did move on to pastures new but, if he did head to the NRL, it may well benefit the national team as he could emerge as the premier forward to replace Graham himself who is approaching the end of his career – but Saints’ fans will be hoping he sticks around for a while more yet.
