Dan to return?

After just one year and a handful of appearances under his belt, Dan Sarginson seems set for a return to Super League after new Gold Coast Titans’ coach Garth Brennan said “I was upfront with Dan and said the way things are at the moment, he might struggle to crack into our NRL squad.”

This could be good news for Wigan who may be looking for a new frontline centre to replace Anthony Gelling who, following a car crash where his girlfriend was injured, has returned indefinitely to New Zealand. Should the Kiwi remain Down Under, the door may well be opened for Sarginson to return to the club he served for three years from 2014, making 75 appearances for the Cherry and Whites.

This week, however, has seen Hull KR emerge as a possible destination for the former London Bronco as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of their first season back in Super League. If, though, he does choose the DW Stadium as his next destination, he will join a handful of players who have returned to the Warriors during Shaun Wane’s reign with Joel and Sam Tomkins, Thomas Leuluai and Joe Burgess all coming back to Wigan after periods elsewhere.

Of course, none of this is a done deal yet but, with him now apparently out of favour in the NRL, it seems likely that Sarginson will return to Super League in time for the 2018 campaign.
