With the 2018 Super League campaign set to begin in February, rugby league players are putting in the hard yards now while the rest of us are winding down ready for Christmas and New Year. Indeed, Hull FC’s stars are today starting their fourth week of pre season training and, looking to build on the winning the Challenge Cup in each of the last two seasons, Marc Sneyd’s comments about unity and commitment will be music to the ears of the Black and White’s fans.

Himself in his third week back, Sneyd is one of Hull’s key players with his accurate kicking and tactical nous being vital in guiding the Humberside club around the pitch. Referencing his teammate’s commitment to the cause, Sneyd has said “We all put a bit of onus on each other as well. There is only so much that Paul Hatton can tell us to do. People have also got to get on with it on their own.” Indeed, a cursory glance at player’s social media will show that many a rugby league player have been busy in the gym throughout their off season, preparing for a gruelling training period before the games commence. The committment is evident from the extra time the players are putting in, Sneyd commenting that “we are sometimes here at half seven in a morning for an 8.15am training start and we’ve got 20 lads stretching out in the gym and preparing. That’s good to see and it shows we want to be ready for the tough sessions ahead”.

Indeed, Hull will be wanting to go further than 2017 in the Super League and, after losing to Leeds in the play off semi final, will be doing whatever they can to reach only their second Grand Final in the Super League era. Widely thought of as the most ferocious team in the competition with their brutal pack, a bit more guile out wide may be a key development that Lee Radford and co. will be working on and hoping for – will they be able to deliver in 2018?
